Peter was Chief Executive of British Cycling from February 1997 to December 2008 and an Executive Director from January 2009 to October 2014. During his tenure he oversaw a period during which the organisation moved from the brink of insolvency, to being one of the most vibrant and successful governing bodies of sport in the UK.
Peter was made a CBE in 2008 in recognition of his services to cycling having previously been awarded one of the sport’s highest accolades, the Bidlake Trophy, in 2007. He was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame in 2010 and awarded British Cycling's Gold Medal of Honour in 2014.
Peter, keen time triallist during the 60's and 70's an era long before tri-bars was completing 25's in under and hour and competed in the National Time Trial Championship (and finished!) in 1975. He's completed the Atape twice, finishing on the Ventoux and the Tourmalet in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Peter cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats in 2009 and completed it in seven and a half days without any support.
A lifetime local resident, became the Honorary President of Dorking Cycling Club in 2013 and is currently the Chairman of England Athletics and sits on the board of Sport Wales.
